Family Support and Services

At Shrub Oak International School, family involvement is an integral part of our programing. Our comprehensive family-involvement approach includes parent trainings, parent support groups, and regular parent meetings and engagement. Considered by Shrub Oak to be an essential part of a student’s treatment team, families are directly connected to team members including clinical providers, residential leadership, and educational administrators from the point of admission. Our dedicated staff work closely with families to involve them in decision making, provide timely updates, and address concerns as they arise. Parents are also provided with access to our parent portal, a secure online platform where families can access important information around their child’s progress.

At Shrub Oak, we understand that our students exist within a family system, and as a critical part of their child’s journey at Shrub Oak, we work to encourage and support family/caregiver involvement in a variety of ways. Beyond the groups and meetings noted above, this involvement includes family sessions with clinical providers, transdisciplinary meetings around educational and clinical planning, and support around in-person and virtual visits that meets the needs of both each family and their child. Families are also invited to attend events such as student showcases, parent-teacher conferences, open house events, and other special functions throughout the year. Our approach to student and family engagement is highly individualized, and is designed to celebrate and embrace the diverse strengths, needs, and identities of each and every one of our students and their family members.
