Professional:

Teaira Green began her career in residential services in 2015 at an OPWDD Intermediate Care Facility, where she supported individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, and co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Starting as a Direct Support Professional and advancing into leadership roles as an Assistant Supervisor and Residential Supervisor, Teaira developed a strong foundation in person-centered care, relationship building, and residential leadership. Her experiences working directly with individuals have shaped her belief in the importance of seeing each person beyond their diagnosis and recognizing their strengths, abilities, and potential.

Teaira found purpose in watching individuals achieve goals that others may have once believed were beyond their reach. Seeing individuals grow, overcome obstacles, and reach new milestones showed her the profound impact that dedicated and compassionate staff can have on a person’s life. These experiences sparked a passion for developing the staff who provide that care. She believes that when staff are given the right tools, guidance, training, and encouragement, they are better equipped to help individuals reach their fullest potential.

Since joining Shrub Oak International School in 2022, Teaira has served in progressive leadership roles as a Residential Supervisor, Operations Manager, and now Residential Director. In her current role, she is passionate about developing staff and future leaders, strengthening relationships with families, creating consistency within residential services, and supporting the overall quality of life of each student. Her leadership style is described as compassionate, transparent, supportive, and focused on leading by example.

Teaira is particularly proud of the strong teams she has built throughout her career and the relationships she has developed with the students she supports. She believes that taking the time to truly know each student—their strengths, preferences, needs, and goals—is essential to providing meaningful, individualized care. As Residential Director, she is committed to continuing to build strong partnerships among staff, families, and interdisciplinary teams while creating an environment where both students and staff can grow and thrive.

Personal:

Outside of work, Teaira enjoys traveling with her husband and their four children. She especially enjoys experiencing different cultures through food and exploring new places together as a family. She values the opportunity to create memories with her family while learning about and experiencing perspectives different from her own.
