Even though classes were on pause Tuesday and Wednesday for Rosh Hashanah, Shrub Oak International School was filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of activities to keep our students engaged and having fun. From the moment the day began with “Good Morning SOIS” to the final celebration, each unique activity brought students together in the spirit of creativity, learning, and joy.
The mornings started with morning routines: tidying bedrooms, practicing hygiene, and enjoying a hearty breakfast to fuel the day ahead. Students then gathered in the auditorium for stretching, yoga, and mindfulness, setting a calm and focused tone before the excitement began.
One highlight was game time, where students dove into chess, card games, puzzles, and more. Face painting and temporary tattoos brought extra color and smiles to the day. After lunch, activities branched out across campus, from a special educational program on Rosh Hashanah led by our own students, to high-energy games like Hopscotch Rock Paper Scissors in the gym.
On the second day of holiday programming, creativity took center stage. Students explored spin art, finger painting, and watercolors, with each cohort enjoying their own time to play and create. Fitness options like basketball, soccer, and relay races gave everyone the chance to stay active. The afternoon brought another special Rosh Hashanah program, followed by Spoken Word, “Name That Tune,” and karaoke in the auditorium.
To round out the celebrations, the front picnic area transformed into a lively festival space with chalk drawing, bubbles, music, and yard games. Students ran, played, and laughed together under the early fall sun, closing out the holiday break in true Shrub Oak International School fashion—through connection, joy, and community.
Even during days off from school, Shrub Oak International School’s campus was alive with curiosity, learning, and fun. From art and music to games, nature, and holiday traditions, these programs offered students opportunities to connect with one another, explore their creativity, and make wonderful memories.
