Celebrating Community and Inclusion Through Easter and Passover Activities at Shrub Oak International School

Students at Shrub Oak International School recently took part in a series of festive spring activities celebrating both Easter and Passover traditions, creating an opportunity for the campus community to learn, create, and celebrate together. Through hands-on arts and crafts, a lively Easter egg hunt, a special visit from the Easter Bunny, and a traditional Seder feast, students experienced meaningful cultural traditions in a welcoming environment designed to include everyone.

Seasonal celebrations at Shrub Oak are designed to foster community while also introducing students to a variety of cultural and religious traditions. The Easter and Seder activities reflected this approach, offering engaging experiences that emphasized creativity, learning, and shared celebration. Importantly, all activities were open to every student on campus, regardless of religious background, reinforcing the school’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for diverse traditions.

Arts and crafts served as a central part of the festivities. Students participated in Easter-themed creative projects that allowed them to express themselves while embracing the spirit of the holiday. These hands-on activities encouraged creativity and provided opportunities for students to work collaboratively with peers and staff. Craft projects often provide a meaningful avenue for autistic students to engage socially and build confidence while participating in structured, enjoyable tasks.

One of the most anticipated events was the Easter egg hunt held on campus. Students searched the grounds for colorful eggs hidden throughout the area, bringing excitement and friendly competition to the day. The activity encouraged movement, exploration, and teamwork as students navigated the hunt together. Laughter and celebration filled the campus as students proudly collected their finds and shared the experience with friends.

Adding to the excitement, the Easter Bunny made a special appearance, delighting students across campus. Many students enjoyed the opportunity to greet the familiar holiday character, take photos, and share in the festive atmosphere. Visits from seasonal characters often create memorable moments that contribute to the sense of joy and community during campus celebrations.

– Students also had the opportunity to participate in a traditional Seder meal, an important component of the Jewish holiday of Passover. The Seder feast provided a chance for students to experience elements of Jewish culture and tradition in a welcoming and educational setting. Staff members helped guide students through aspects of the meal and explained the meaning behind certain symbolic foods traditionally served during a Seder.

Sharing the Seder meal together also created an opportunity for students to gather as a community around the table. Meals and celebrations at Shrub Oak often emphasize connection, conversation, and cultural learning, helping students expand their understanding of traditions from around the world.

The combination of Easter festivities and the Seder celebration highlighted Shrub Oak International School’s commitment to creating inclusive experiences that honor diverse traditions while bringing students together. By offering activities that welcome all participants, the school encourages curiosity, respect, and shared joy across the campus community.

Through crafts, celebrations, and shared meals, the Easter and Passover festivities provided students with memorable experiences that blended creativity, culture, and connection—an approach that reflects the supportive and vibrant environment at Shrub Oak International School.
